About the Komodo Dragon

The Komodo dragon is the largest living lizard, found only on a few Indonesian islands including Komodo. A powerful apex predator, it ambushes large prey such as deer, wild boar, and water buffalo, using serrated teeth and a venomous bite that contains toxins and prevents blood from clotting. It has a keen sense of smell, flicking out its forked tongue to detect carrion from kilometers away. Despite their bulk, Komodo dragons can sprint in short bursts and swim between islands. The species is vulnerable in the wild.
